1.75 g (7.7 mmol) of 3-(5-carboxy-2-furyl)indazole together with 2.5 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid in 60 ml of toluene and 20 ml of ethanol were heated on a water separator. Customary work-up gave 1.2 g (60%) of the title compound.
