Procedure

1-(2-chloro-1-ethyl)-1,3-dihydro-5-fluoro-2-oxo-2H-indole-3-spiro-2'-1,3 dithiane was dissolved in a mixture of ethanol/tetrahydrofuran (3:2). Raney nickel was added and the mixture was heated under reflux with vigorous stirring for 3 h. The cooled solution was filtered, evaporated under reduced pressure and triturated with ether to give 1-(2-chloro-1-ethyl)-5-fluoro-1,3-dihydro-2H-indole-2-one as a white solid, melting point 127° C.
