Reaction Steps
Reduction of the rac.-methyl-3-benzyloxy-2-methylpropionate was carried outwith sodium bis(2-methoxyethoxy)-aluminum hydride using the procedure described in Example 9. Distillation of the crude product afforded the rac. 3-benzyloxy-2-methyl-1-propanol in 90.5% yield as a colorless liquid,b.p. 94°-98° C. (0.1 mm Hg.).
