| Product | (2,4-Dimethyl-5-methoxy-3-thenyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide | HCID 86735242 | — |
Reaction Steps
6.1 G. (35.5 mmol) of 2,4-dimethyl-3-hydroxymethyl-5-methoxythiophene were added at 35° C. with vigorous stirring to a suspension of 13.4 g. (39.0 mmol) of triphenylphosphonium bromide in 250 ml. of acetonitrile. The deep purple color which was formed immediately, disappeared after some minutes. The reaction mixture was stirred for 3 hrs. The solvent was evaporated to a volume of about 25 ml. and an excess of cold ether was added. The solvent then was decanted from the resulting oily precipitate which was dissolved in warm acetone and again precipitated by adding cold ether. The solvent was decanted and the resulting oily residue was dried in high vacuum to yield (2,4-dimethyl-5-methoxy-3-thenyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide.
