Procedure
1.37 g of ethyl 8-chloroimidazo-[1,2-a]-quinoline-2-carboxylate hydrobromide were suspended in 50 ml of ethanol and 7.7 ml of 1 N sodium hydroxide were added thereto. The mixture obtained was heated on a steam bath for 30 minutes and sodium 8-chloroimidazo-[1,2-a]-quinoline-2-carboxylate precipitated as a white solid melting at >300° C.
