Procedure
A mixture of 1-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-oxo-1,3-dihydro-2-benzofuran-1-carboxamide (17 g), 1,3-diaminopropane (25 mL), and toluene (125 mL) was heated at reflux for 19 h in a flask equipped with a water separator. The mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and extracted with water, and evaporated to dryness. The residue was crystallized from ethanol to give the title compound (26 g) as a solid, m.p. 126-128° C.
