Reaction Steps

To a solution of 4-phenylsulfonylamino-3-methoxybenzyl alcohol (522 mg; prepared in Reference Example 43.) in methylene chloride (1 5 ml), manganese dioxide (3 g) was added in a stream of argon. The solution was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. After the termination of reaction, the reaction mixture was filtered. The filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound (404 mg) having the following physical data.
