After reaction at a temperature of 75° C. for one hour, a mixture of 1232 g of styrene and 28 g of methacrylic acid was continuously charged thereinto over a period of 4 hours and the reaction was continued at 75° C. for 3 hours, after which the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature to obtain an aqueous dispersion of styrene-methacrylic acid copolymer particles. The solid concentration of the aqueous dispersion was 20%. The mean particle size of the polymer particles was 0.19 μm.
