By replacing in Example 11, step B, the mono sodium salt of 4-(p-methylphenylthio)-5-nitro-3-sulfinobenzoic acid for the mono sodium salt of 5-nitro-4-phenylthio3-sulfinobenzoic acid and following the procedure described, 5-amino-3-mercapto-4-(p-methylphenylthio)benzoic acid is obtained with a melting poinr of 178° - 182°C.
