Reaction Steps
To 3(4-cyanostyryl) pyridine (0.5 g) was added 95% ethanol (20ml) and conc. H2SO4 (1 ml). The reaction was then heated at 120°C for 22 hrs. The reaction mixture was cooled, diluted with water and basified using sodium bicarbonate. The product was extracted with ether. Mpt 98°C.
