A mixture of 3-(3-amino-4-methoxybenzoyl) propionic acid (15.61 g.) with acetic anhydride (7.14 g.) was treated with concentrated sulphuric acid (2 drops) and heated on the steam bath for 3 hours. It was then cooled and decomposed by the addition of ice. The resultant solid was collected and crystallised from methanol to yield the product, (10.5 g.), m.p. 184°-185°C.
