Reaction Steps
A solution of 1.1 g. (0.00372 mole) of 4'-(α,α,β,β-tetrafluorophenethyl)-acetophenone, 0.7 g. (0.0071 mole) of hydroxylamine hydrochloride, 8.5 ml. of absolute ethanol, and 1.5 ml. of dry pyridine is heated to refluxing for 6 hours. Solvents are evaporated under reduced pressure and the residual solid is triturated with water. The crystalline product, m.p. 137°-139°C., is collected and recrystallized from hexane to obtain white needles, m.p. 139°-141°C. Recrystallization from hexane affords the analytical sample, m.p. 140°-141°C.
