32.3 g (0.1 mol) of dimethyl 6-[3,6-dihydro-1(2H)-pyridyl]-2,4-pyrimidinedicarbamate 3-oxide are stirred at room temperature for 3 hours in a mixture of methylene chloride and 3 percent sodium hydroxide solution. The two phases are separated and the aqueous phase is made acid, there being obtained methyl 5-[3,6-dihydro-1(2H)-pyridyl]-2-oxo-2H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[2,3-a]pyrimidine-7-carbamate of melting point 210°-212°.
