A mixture of 3.7 gm (11.6 millimols) of 3-benzyl-11-methoxy-1,2,4,5-tetrahydro-3H-azepino[4,5-b]quinoline, 1.1 ml (11.6millimols) of ethyl chloroformate and 35 ml of chloroform was stirred at 5° for 24 hours. After evaporation, the residue was chromatographed on silicagel with toluene/acetone (8:1) as the eluant.
