A mixture of [1-methyl-3-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexenyl)-2(trans)-propenyl]dimethyl(4-chlorobenzyl)ammonium iodide (2.0 g), silver chloride (1.0 g) and absolute methanol (50 cc) was refluxed for 2 hours, and the reaction mixture was filtered. The solvent of the filtrate was distilled off to give hygroscopic colorless crystals (0.9 g) of [1-methyl-3-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexenyl)-2(trans)-propenyl]dimethyl(4-chlorobenzyl)ammonium chloride.
