1.1 g of 5-acetyl-2,2'-bithiophene was dissolved in 35 ml of ethanol, followed by adding 0.6 ml of 2-formyl-thiophene and KOH solution (KOH:H2O:ethanol=0.5 g:1 ml:5 ml). The color of the solution was turned into dark brown. Additional 0.1 ml of 2-formyl-thiophene was added to complete the reaction. The reaction solution was monitored by thin layer chromatography to determine whether the reaction was completed. The reaction mixture was kept in a refrigerator overnight. Decomposed with water and the crude product was collected. After the product was recrystallized from ethanol, 1.27 g of product was thus obtained and the melting point thereof was 135°-136° C. (yield: 84.1%).
