A mixture of 2-bromomethyl-4-isopropyl-6-methoxy-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide (410 mg, 1.18 mmol), 2,4-dihydro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-5-cyano-3H-pyrazol-3-one (300 mg, 1.18 mmol), KF (68.44 mg, 1.18 mmol) and DMF (20 mL) was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (100 mL) and was extracted with ether (3×50 mL). The ether extracts were combined, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with 20% ethyl acetate/hexane to afford 310 mg of 4-isopropyl-6-methoxy-2-[1-(2, 4-dichlorophenyl)-3-cyanopyrazol-5-yl-oxymethyl]-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide (Formula I: R1 =2,4-Cl2 --Ph; R2 =CN; R3 =H; R4 =CH(CH3)2 ; R5 =6-OCH3), m.p. 183°-184° C.
