Procedure
9.0 g of 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-4-[2-fluoro-4-methoxycarbonylbenzylidene]piperidine in 150 ml of methanol are treated with a solution of 4.0 g of 84% caustic potash in 100 ml of water and the mixture is stirred overnight at ambient temperature. The methanol is evaporated off, the residue is mixed water with cooling and the mixture is acidified with dilute hydrochloric acid. The precipitate is suction-filtered, washed with water and dried in vacuo. 8.6 g (95% of theory) of 4-(4-carboxy-2-fluorobenzylidene)-1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)piperidine of melting point 170°-173° C. are obtained.
