Reaction Steps
To a stirred solution of 1.0 g of 10,11-dihydro-10-(4-aminobenzoyl)-5H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepine and 3 ml of N,N-diisopropylethylamine in 100 ml of methylene chloride is slowly added 600 mg of 2-methylpyridine-3-carbonyl chloride dissolved in 15 ml of methylene chloride. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is quenched with water and the organic layer washed well with water. The organic layer is dried(MgSO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo to a residue which is purified by column chromatography on silica gel by elution with 1:1 ethyl acetate:hexane to give 800 mg of the desired product as a pale yellow residue. M+ =422.
