Reaction Steps
1.30 g of 5-formyl-2,2':5',2"-terthiophene, 1.04 g of malonic acid, 20 ml of pyridine and 0.1 ml of piperidine were heated at 50°-60° C. for 2 hours. 100 ml of water was added after reaction was completed. The mixture was acidified by diluted HCl and the precipitate collected was recrystallized from ethanol to give reddish crystal (1.43 g). The melting point thereof was 202°-203° C. The yield was 84%.
