Reaction Steps

A mixture of 4,4-difluoro-1-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-butane-1,3-dione (6.75 g, 25.4 mmol) and commercially available 3-aminopyrazole (2.11 g, 25.4 mmol) in acetic acid (70 mL) was refluxed for 7 h and evaporated. The crude product was further purified by crystallization (ethyl acetate/hexane) to yield 5-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-7-difluoromethyl-pyrazolo [1,5-a]pyrimidine (6.52 g, 82%) as a light yellow solid. MS (EI) 313.1 [(M)+]; mp 127° C.
