22.2 g of ethyl 8-bromo-1-cyclopropyl-6,7-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylate, 30.2 g of tributylstannyl-trimethylsilyl-acetylene and 3.48 g of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) are refluxed for 3 hours in 300 ml of absolute toluene under a nitrogen atmosphere. After the reaction mixture has cooled to approx. -18° C., the solid is filtered off with suction, washed with toluene and dried. 18.8 g of ethyl 1-cyclopropyl-6,7-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-8-(trimethylsilylethinyl)-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylate (80% of theory) are obtained.
