1.4 g of ethyl 1-cyclopropyl-6,7-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-8-(propin-1-yl)-3-quinolinecarboxylate are refluxed for 1 hour in a mixture of 20 ml of glacial acetic acid, 1.5 ml of water and 0.5 ml of concentrated sulphuric acid. The mixture is treated with approx. 10 ml of water, and the solid which has precipitated is then isolated and dried. In this manner, 1.05 g of 1-cyclopropyl-6,7-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-8-(propin-1-yl)-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid are obtained (82% of theory).
