Reaction Steps

A mixture of methyl (3-hydroxy-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)acetate (464 mg), 4-(4-chloromethylphenoxymethyl)-5-methyl-2-phenyloxazole (628 mg), potassium carbonate (553 mg) and N,N-dimethylformamide (10 ml) was stirred at 60° C. for 4 hrs. The reaction mixture was poured into water and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated brine, dried (MgSO) and concentrated. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography, and methyl [3-[4-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)benzyloxy]-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]acetate (767 mg, yield 75%) was obtained as colorless crystals from a fraction eluted with ethyl-acetate. The crystals were recrystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane. melting point: 113–114° C.
