Hydrochloric Acid → 3,4-Dimethyl-2(3H)-thiazolone hydrazone hydrochloride
Reaction equation
CC(=[N:4][N:5]=[C:6]1[N:10]([CH3:11])[C:9]([CH3:12])=[CH:8][S:7]1)C.[ClH:13]>>[ClH:13].[CH3:11][N:10]1[C:9]([CH3:12])=[CH:8][S:7][C:6]1=[N:5][NH2:4]Participants

Procedure
3.5 g (19 mmol) of 3,4-dimethyl-2(3H)thiazolone-(1-methylethylidene) hydrazone from step 1 in 60 mL of 6M hydrochloric acid was heated at 50° C. for 30 minutes. The reaction mixture was then concentrated, and the crude product was recrystallized from ethanol. This gave 2 g (60% of the theoretical) of a pink-colored powder.
