[N-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)-α-methyl-(R)-phenylalanyl]glycine, ethyl ester was stirred at ambient temperature in 4N HCl in dioxane (30 ml). After 1.5 h, the solvent was removed in vacuo. The residue was transferred to a separatory funnel with EtOAc. Extraction with EtOAc (2×) and washing of the combined organic layers brine and drying with MgSO4 afforded 0.63 g of crude product after evaporation of the solvent. This was used in the next step without further purification. MS (ESI) 265 (M+H).
