In a manner analogous to Example 1(a), 5.34 g (32 mmoles) of 4-hydroxy-2-methyl benzoic acid treated at 100° C. for 12 hours with 50 ml of allyl alcohol and 1.5 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid, give 4 g (76% yield) of the expected ester having a melting point of 76°-77° C.
