Procedure
A solution of compound 1b (21 g, 96 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (20.5 g, 115 mmol) in dichloromethane (500 mL) was irradiated with a sun lamp for 2 h at rt. The reaction mixture was filtered through a short column of silica gel in dichloromethane and concentrated on a rotary evaporator. The residue was recrystallized (ethyl acetate/hexane/petroleum ether) to afford compound 1c as a white solid (23.2 g, 82%). ESI-MS m/e 300.1 (M+1).
