(S)-Diethyl 2-((4-(acetoxymethyl)-7-bromo-1H-indazol-5-yl)methyl)succinate (555 mg, 1.219 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (20 mL). N-Bromosuccinimide (250 mg, 1.405 mmol) was added to the mixture followed by a small amount of silica gel. Reaction stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. Mixture was concentrated some by roto-vap. Silica gel chromatography eluting ethyl acetate-hexanes afforded the title compound as clear colorless oil in 84% yield. MS (M−H)−=533.1, 531.2, 535.1.
