3.5 g of (5-hydroxy-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-1-yl)methyl acetate prepared in Example 1-d was dissolved in 50 ml of dichloromethane and 10 g of manganese dioxide was added, followed by stirring at room temperature for 2 days. The reaction mixture was filtered through Celite, and the filtrate was washed with ethyl acetate and the solvent was evaporated, to give 2.7 g of the title compound as a colorless oil.
