Procedure

To a solution of (E)(E)(S)(S) 2-ethoxy-3-{4-[5-(3-{5-[4-(2-ethoxy-2-ethoxycarbonyl-ethyl)-phenoxy]-3-methyl-pent-3-en-1-ynyl}-phenyl)-3-methyl-pent-2-en-4-ynyloxy]-phenyl}-propionic acid ethyl ester (example 27) (255 mg 0.36 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) was added 1N sodium hydroxide (3.6 mL). After stirring at 60° C. for 30 min, the reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and added 1N hydrochloride acid. The product was extracted with dichloromethane (×3). The combined organic phases were dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give 232 mg (99%) of the title compound.
