WSC (43 mg) was added to a solution of 6-(benzofuran-2-yl)-3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-2H-pyran-2-one (40 mg), picolinic acid (23 mg) and HOBt (21 mg) in DMF (3 ml), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 21.5 hours. The reaction solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane/AcOEt=2/1→3/2) to obtain 6-(benzofuran-2-yl)-3,5-dimethyl-4-(2-pyridylcarboxy)-2H-pyran-2-one.
