Procedure
22.6 g (0.126 mol) of 5-(4-fluorophenyl)-pyrrolidin-2-one in 200 ml of toluene are boiled at reflux with 55 g (0.25 mol) of tert-butyl pyrocarbonate for 5 hours. After cooling the mixture, is washed repeatedly with water and the organic phase, is dried and concentrated under reduced pressure using a rotary evaporator. The residue is stirred with petroleum ether and the crystals are filtered off with suction. This gives 21.8 g (62% yield of theory) of 1-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)-5-(4-fluorophenyl)-pyrrolidin-2-one of m.p. 117°.
