Ethyl 4-{[(1S)-1-{[(4R)-4-benzyl-2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-3-yl]carbonyl}-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)butyl]thio}-3-nitrobenzoate (Reference Example 22) (0.62 g, 0.11 mmol), ethanol (10 ml), acetic acid (5 ml) and 10% Pd—C (1.5 g) were mixed, and the mixture was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature under a hydrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture was filtered through Celite and the filtrate was concentrated. The residue was purified by a silica gel chromatography (40 g, ethyl acetate:hexane=1:3) to obtain ethyl (2S)-2-[3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propyl]-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzothiazine-6-carboxylate (0.2 g, 98.3% e.e.), i.e., the compound described in Example 7.
