Using (2R)-2-hydroxy-5-(4-methoxy-phenyl)pentanoic acid (80% e.e.), ethyl 2-hydroxy-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)pentanoate was quantitatively obtained (80% e.e.) by a process similar to the process described in Reference Example 27.
