Reaction Steps
5.2 ml (40 mmol) of butanesulfonyl chloride are added to a solution of 6 g (36 mmol) of eugenol and 5.5 ml (43 mmol) of triethylamine in 100 ml of dichloromethane, cooled beforehand to −20° C. After stirring at room temperature for 3 hours, the reaction medium is treated with water and ethyl acetate. The organic phase is dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated. 10.8 g (100%) of butyl (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenyl)methanesulfonate are obtained.
