Reaction Steps
Compound 103 (2.7 g, 4.3 mmol) was dissolved in 30 ml methylene chloride and 30 ml diethylamine was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h, and then concentrated to an oil under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved with diethyl ether and ethyl acetate (ca. 50 ml ea.) and extracted with 10% citric acid. The aqueous layer was neutralized to pH13 with 10 N NaOH and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 1.6 g of a brown oil, 4.0 mmol, 92% (compound 104).
