Procedure

5-Benzyloxycarbonylamino-2-methyl-2H-pyrazole-3-carbDxylic acid methyl ester (643, 2.2 g, 7.6 mmol) was combined with methanol (50 mL) and 10% palladium on carbon (500 mg). The mixture was stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen for three hours. The mixture was filtered through Celite and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give the desired compound (644, 1.2 g, 98%). (ESI) [M+H+]+=156.1.
