Procedure
To an ice cooled solution of 8-(2-aminomethyl-6-methylbenzylamino)-2,3-dimethylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (0.17 g, 0.58 mmol), pyridine (0.046 g, 0.58 mmol) in methylene chloride (8 ml) was added methyl chloroformate (0.055 g, 0.58 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred for 1.5 h. and the temperature was allowed to raise to 12° C. Methylene chloride was added and the solution was washed twice with water. The organic layer was separated, washed with saturated sodium bicarbonate, dried and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by by column chromatography on silica gel using methylene chloride:methanol (100:5) as eluent. Recrystallization from diethyl ether gave 0.052 g (25%) of the title compound.
