Reaction Steps
To a solution of Example 237E (0.25 g, 0.95 mmol) in anhydrous THF (5 mL) at −5° C. was slowly added a 1 M solution of p-chlorophenylmagnesium bromide in diethyl ether (2.85 mL, 2.85 mmol). The reaction was quench after 10 minutes with dropwise addition of water (1 mL) and partitioned between dichloromethane (25 mL) and 50% sat. aq NaHCO3 (50 mL). The aqueous phase was extracted with dichloromethane (25 mL) and the organic extracts combined, dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel using EtOAc/hexane as eluent to provide the title compound as a foam, which was crushed and dried in a desiccator to yield a powder (0.36 g, 100%).
