Reaction Steps
) HCl (gaseous) (excess) was bubbled through a suspension of (±)-4-[[[4,5-dihydro-3-(3-pyridinyl)-5-isoxazolyl]carbonyl]amino]-a-phenylbenzeneacetic acid (0.005 mol) in CH2Cl2 (100 ml) for 10 minutes. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The white solid was co-evaporated twice with toluene. Thionyl chloride (50 ml) was added. The reaction mixture was heated and refluxed for 1 hour. The solvent was evaporated. The reaction mixture was co-evaporated three times with toluene, yielding N-[4-[(chlorocarbonyl)phenylmethyl]phenyl]-4,5-dihydro-3-(3-pyridinyl)-5-isoxazolecarboxamide (compound 493).
