Procedure
1.9 g (6.5 mmol) of 4-(2-trifluoroacetamidophenyl)-1-dimethylamino-1-aza-1,3-butadiene, 2.2 mL of acetic anhydride and 1.6 g of Pd/C (10%) are successively added to a solution of 5,8-dioxocarbostyril (1.04 g, 5.9 mmol) in 500 mL of acetonitrile. The reaction medium is refluxed for 15 hours under nitrogen. After evaporating off the solvent on a rotary evaporator, the crude product obtained is purified by flash chromatography on silica (CH2Cl2 and then 95/5 CH2Cl2/MeOH) to give 400 mg of a yellow powder of compound CRL 8249 (or of its oxo tautomer in position 8).
