Reaction Steps
A solution of 14.7 g (52.6 mmol) of the preceding ketoamine (22.2) in 150 ml of CH2Cl2 is treated with 3.5 g (52.6 mmol) of methylamine hydrochloride and then methanol is added until dissolution is complete. After stirring for 3 h at 25° C., the mixture is cooled on an ice bath and 14.5 g (68.5 mmol) of sodium triacetoxyborohydride are added portionwise and, finally, 3 ml of acetic acid are added dropwise. Stirring is continued overnight at 25° C. The reaction mixture is poured into ice and basified to pH 12-13. The base released is extracted in the usual way to give a greenish oil.
