3-Benzyl-6-mercapto-5-methyl-1H-pyrimidine-2,4-dione (0.25 g, 1.0 mmol) was dissolved in dimethylformamide (10 mL). 3-Phenylbenzyl bromide (0.25 g, 1.02 mmol) was added and the reaction heated at 60° C. for 2 hours. The dimethylformamide was removed in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with hexane:ethyl acetate (3:1) to give 3-benzyl-6-(biphenyl-3-ylmethylsulfanyl)-5-methyl-1H-pyrimidine-2,4-dione (0.41 g, 99% yield). MS (APCI+), m/z (%): 415(100), 413 (30), 247(100).
