1.10 g of osmium tetroxide in 2-methyl-2-propanol and then 8.70 g of sodium periodate are added at ambient temperature to a solution of 10 mmol of the product obtained in Step C in a mixture of 50 ml of dioxane and 25 ml of water. After stirring overnight at ambient temperature, the suspension is filtered and the filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue is taken up in dichloromethane. The organic phase is washed with water, dried and evaporated. The residue is purified by chromatography on silica gel to yield the title product.
