2.7 g of potassium permanganate in 50 ml of an acetone/water mixture (50/50) are added at ambient temperature to a solution of 6.88 mmol of the product obtained in Step D in 30 ml of acetone. The solution is stirred for 2 hours at ambient temperature and then filtered. The filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure and chromatographed on silica gel to yield the title product.
