Reaction Steps

To a solution of tert-butyl (2E, 4R)-4-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}-2-hexenoate (9.73 g, 30.5 mmol) in methanol (200 ml) were added acetic acid (3.5 ml, 61 mmol) and 10% Palladium carbon (3.2 g). The mixture was stirred under hydrogen atmosphere for 7 hours. Catalyst was filtered off under a nitrogen atomosphere and the filtrate was condensed with an evaporator to give tert-butyl (4R)-4-aminohexanoate acetic acid salt (7.5 g, quantitatively).
