N-(Toluene-4-sulfonyl)sarcosine was coupled to 3-(3-pyridyl)alanine methyl ester dihydrochloride using the procedure described in Method 3 to give N-(toluene-4-sulfonyl)sarcosyl-β-(3-pyridyl)alanine (166 mg, 17%). The title compound was prepared via hydrolysis of the methyl ester using 1N aqueous NaOH in dioxane/water (129 mg, 100%).
