1.90 g of 6-amino-5-methyl-benzodioxan is dissolved in 50 mL of water containing 11.8 mL of 1.0N hydrochloric acid. 1.10 mL of thiophosgene is added dropwise while stirring vigorously. After 4 hours of stirring at room temperature, the mixture is made basic with 50% sodium hydroxide solution, and then extracted with methylene chloride. The extracts are dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated. The residue is found to be 2.0 g of 6-isothiocyanato-5-methylbenzodioxan.
