Procedure
2-Allyl-N-methylaniline (14.7 g, 0.10 mol) is heated to 80° C. in the presence of 2M sodium carbonate solution (75 ml) and allyl bromide (14.1 g, 0.116 mol) for 6 hours. The mixture is diluted with water and extracted with ether twice (150 and 75 ml portions). The extracts are washed with water and brine, dried over potassium carbonate, and concentrated to an oil. The oil is distilled on a Kugelrohr apparatus to provide pure N,2-diallyl-N-methylaniline.
